ZAHRA THE HONEST GIRL BY KHADIJAT BABANSULE
Zahra the honest girl

Zahra was overjoyed when she received the letter of admission from the University of Ilorin. She had worked hard to pass her WAEC and
JAMB exams, and her dream of studying accounting was finally coming true. She packed her bags and boarded a bus to Ilorin, leaving behind her parents and siblings in Abuja.
She arrived at the university campus and checked into her hostel room, which she shared with three other girls. They introduced themselves and exchanged pleasantries, then helped her settle in. Zahra felt nervous but excited about starting her new life as a jambite, a term used for freshers in Nigerian universities.
The next day, she attended the orientation program, where she learned about the rules and regulations, the academic calendar, the courses and faculties, and the student services. She also met some of her classmates and made friends with them. They formed a study group and agreed to help each other with assignments and exams.
Zahra was eager to learn and participate in class. She always did her homework, read her textbooks, and took notes. She also joined some clubs and societies, such as the Accounting Students Association, the Muslim Students Society, and the Literary and Debating Club. She enjoyed the extracurricular activities and the social interactions, which enriched her university experience.
However, not everything was smooth and easy for Zahra. She also faced some challenges and temptations, which tested her character and integrity. One of them was the issue of exam malpractice, which was rampant in some courses and departments. Some of her classmates and seniors offered to sell her the answers to the test questions, or to help her cheat during the exams. They told her that it was the only way to pass and graduate, and that everyone was doing it.
Zahra was shocked and appalled by this. She had always believed in honesty and hard work, and she knew that cheating was wrong and immoral. She refused to join them, and told them that she would rather fail than cheat. She also reported them to the lecturer, who praised her for her courage and honesty, and warned the others to stop their malpractice.
Zahra's honesty paid off for her in the end. She passed all her exams with flying colors, and graduated with a first-class degree. She also won several awards and scholarships, and was offered a job at a reputable accounting firm. She was proud of herself and grateful to God for his blessings. She also thanked her parents, teachers, and friends for their support and guidance. She had fulfilled her dream, and proved that honesty is the best policy.
