The Mouse House....... By Khadijat Babansule

There was once a house that was infested with many mice. They would run around the rooms, nibble on the food, and make a lot of noise. The people who lived in the house were very annoyed and disgusted by the mice. They tried to catch them with traps and chase them away with brooms, but nothing worked. The mice were too clever and fast.

One day, the mother of the house had an idea. She decided to use food poison to eliminate the mice. She bought a packet of poison from the market and mixed it with some cheese. She placed the cheese in different corners of the house, hoping that the mice would eat it and die.

The next morning, she woke up and checked the cheese. To her delight, she saw that most of the cheese was gone. She also noticed some dead mice lying on the floor. She felt relieved and happy that her plan had worked. She quickly cleaned up the mess and threw away the cheese and the mice.

However, she did not know that there was one more piece of cheese left in the kitchen. It was hidden behind a jar of jam. She had forgotten to check that corner. And she also did not know that her youngest son, Somto, had seen the cheese and was curious about it.

Somto was a naughty and greedy boy. He did not listen to his parents and always did what he wanted. He loved to eat and was always hungry. He often sneaked into the kitchen and stole food from the fridge or the cupboard. He did not care if the food was good or bad, as long as it tasted good.

That morning, Somto woke up and felt hungry. He went to the kitchen and looked for something to eat. He saw the jar of jam and opened it. He dipped his finger in it and licked it. It was sweet and delicious. He wanted more. He looked behind the jar and saw the piece of cheese. He did not know that it was poisoned. He thought it was a normal cheese. He grabbed it and took a big bite. It was salty and creamy. He liked it. He ate the whole cheese and felt satisfied. He did not feel any pain or discomfort. He went back to his room and played with his toys.

A few hours later, the mother came to the kitchen to prepare lunch. She saw the empty jar of jam and the missing cheese. She realized what had happened. She felt a surge of fear and panic. She ran to Somto's room and found him lying on the bed, pale and motionless. She screamed and called for help. She rushed him to the hospital, but it was too late. Somto had died from the food poison. The mother was devastated and blamed herself for her son's death. She wished she had never used the food poison. She wished she had been more careful and attentive. She wished she had taught Somto to be more disciplined and obedient. She wished she could turn back time and save him.

The moral of the story is: Discipline is important for children. They should learn to respect their parents and follow their rules. They should also learn to control their appetite and avoid eating things that are harmful or unknown. Parents should also be responsible and cautious when dealing with pests or problems. They should not use methods that are dangerous or risky. They should also check and secure their food and belongings. They should also educate and guide their children to be safe and smart. By doing so, they can prevent tragedies and live happily.
